Need for Investments in Infrastructure

Frankfurt, 12th Dezember 2023. According to the latest UNWTO figures, Africa’s tourism economy is recovering faster than other regions. Tourist arrivals in the period January to September 2023 are only 8 percent below those in 2019.

In addition to the Middle East and Europe, Africa is experiencing the greatest upswing. Individual countries, such as Tanzania, are on track to even exceed the number of visitors from the pre-Corona year of 2019. International arrivals in the East African country rose to 1,131,286* in the period January to August 2023 compared to 900,182 in the corresponding period last year. This is an increase of 24.7 percent compared to 2022.

The growing number of visitors, especially to safari destinations, requires an expansion of the tourism infrastructure to meet demand and create sustainable jobs for the local population. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), around 25 million people were employed in the African tourism sector in 2019, accounting for 5.6 percent of all jobs on the continent.
